The box was filled with all kinds of goodies. First up was Cuticle Care by Badger. It came in a super cute tin, was full size and I love it. It is not an oil so application is easier. Lasts through most of the day and even a few handwashes. It is handy and easy to apply. A tin will last a long time. It retails for $5.99 for the full size.

Next up we have Vegan lip and cheeks in Peachy rose by: The All Natural Face. This product is quite cute. Comes in a little compact, complete with a mirror. The color was okay, I am very pale skinned so it had more of an orange tone than I would have liked, but it applied well to cheeks. It was okay on the lips, kind of dry. However; I used it on my eyelids as a base for my eyeshadow and it worked great. Added a little color and kept creases from forming. This product was a full size I believe and retails for $4.00

The next product was  also a full size product, Purifying Cleansing Wipes by: Nelsons Pure and Clear. These are handy wipes in a handy container. They sooth and clean the skin. Although they do not remove eye makeup very will they work great after a workout or to refresh. They are not a super moist towel so you can freshen your face and neck without removing all your makeup. They are great for travel, not just because of portability, but also to keep you feeling clean after a long drive or flight. Full size is $8.75

A small foil sample of a lotion was up next. Although I hate foil pack samples I was excited that this one was a coconut one. I love coconut, always reminds me of the beach. This lotion is by Desert Essence. I loved the lotion. It smelled wonderful and was not overly greasy and still managed to moisturize. It has Shea Butter and Jojoba in it so it really gets in the skin. I loved this so much it is on my must order list. Full size is $8.99 for 8 oz

Next we have a bronzer. Bronzers have been in most of the beauty boxes lately because of the summer season. This one is by Purely You. It is a vegan product. It is a very flattering shade and has a touch of shimmer. It is a good product. I was surprised at how well it worked. Full size 4 grams is $7.00

Gummy bears by Surf Sweets were also included in this box. Most of you have heard me mention these in other boxes. These are a favorite in our house, these did not make it more than 2 min after the video and pictures before my kids gobbled them up. They of course are yummy! $2.19 for 2.75 oz

Next up was also a food product. This was Beanitos Black Bean Chips in Chipotle BBQ: These were pretty good. Mine was a little on the crushed side, but still tasty. $2.64 for 6oz

The last item in this month’s box was a package of seeds. These seeds are Wheatgrass Organic Heirloom Seeds. Although I do tend to kill everything I plant, I will give these a try. I recently purchased a juicer and wheatgrass grows fast and can be juiced. I have never had wheatgrass before so it will be a fun experiment.

That was all the goodies in this month’s Eco-Emi June Box. It was a very good box and I got my $15 worth. You can watch the unboxing of the box here. Please let me know if you get Eco-Emi and what you thought of your June box.

Eco Emi Box and Review

Posted on

Hello and welcome! I am a huge fan of subscription box services. Although I love the beauty box one, there are so many different kinds and I try to sample each one. Today I will show you what came in my MAY 2013 Eco-Emi box and the reviews of the products and my overall thoughts. Here is my  May 2013 box

Eco-Emi May 2013

Eco-Emi May 2013

Eco-Emi is an eco-friendly box with a wide variety of products that come inside. The box is $15 a month and it is billed through paypal. This makes it super easy to cancel your subscription. However, Eco Emi is kind of like a phone bill, they bill you in advance. My May box arrived the day after my June payment was taken out. Although this is different and they do not offer refunds, if you have been billed you will still receive that box if you cancel. This is a small company, as in one person, so emails are returned slightly slower, but her attention to detail and the fact she wants you to be happy speaks volumes. The package arrives USPS priority mail in the small box, (no extra boxes here as it is eco-friendly), but she does a great job sprucing up the inside with tissue paper, and paper frills. Now that you have a background on Eco-Emi lets see what was inside and the review of the products.

First off  the May 2013 card. This card gives a sweet message and details about the items included in the box and their full size price.

First Items are the Suncoat Nail polish and the Suncoat mascara. The nail polish is actually for children, which I did not realize right away. It can me removed with water. The mascara is sugar based. Although a great idea you cannot cry or allow your eyes to water with this stuff. It went on smooth and looked great and removes easily, but it will run. I would recommend it for smaller girl, but if yours cries anywhere near as much as mine does, not a good idea.

Next in the box was a shampoo sample from Beauty without Cruelty. This shampoo is clean with a strong mint smell. It cleans like a clarifying shampoo with minimal tangles. I would use this shampoo as a weekly clarifying shampoo. After trying it on both my thick, curly hair and my daughter’s thin, straight hair, I was surprised how well it works on both hair types.

Next in the box is a chapstick. I am a huge fan of chapstick and although I am always buying new ones, I am simultaneously losing old ones. This one was called Mongo Kiss and it was a full size tube! It smelled so good and went on easily. It moisturized okay. It did not stay on as long as I would have liked. Overall a good product.

Next was two samples from the same company, All Terrain. I do not like the little foil samples because I do not think that it is enough to test out a product. I tried the sunscreen, and it worked well. It was only slightly greasy. SPF 30 so that was good, but I only did my face and arms and applied again after 1 hour. I was not really able to test out the insect repellent because we have not really gotten into the bug season yet here, but I smelled it, not to smelly, and applied it, a little greasy.

Next inside the box was an eyeshadow sample. It is from Lauren Brooks cosmetics and in a pretty pink champagne color. It comes in a little shaker. The color is not very stong and it has a ton of glitter, not really my style. I tried it on my daughter and it was cute. I think it would work best as a highlighter color, or to add a little shine. If wearing it by itself I recommend an eyeshadow base because it creased and faded throughout the day. After applying with a base it worked much better.

Now one of my favorite things in the box, the Athena Greek yogurt bar. Greek yogurt is something I just found and I love it. This bar was so good. It was soft and just the right amount of sweet. Mine was the pomegranate flavor and they offer a few other flavors. It can easily be a meal replacement bar or a back up meal. My daughter loved it too!

Athena Bar

The last item in my box was a bath powder from the Seaweed Company. The scent that it came in was lavender. I love lavender and was super excited to try this. Honestly it was odd. Mine never dissolved all the way, the pieces of seaweed just hung in the water. It left a horrible ring around my bathtub and brown splotches on my skin when I got out. Although that part was not ideal, it did moisturized nicely and I was able to get 3 baths out of the package, which was great. The scent was very relaxing and soothing. This product is a maybe to the Will I purchase this again? question.

Seaweed Bath

So that was my May 2013 Eco-Emi box, now my overall thoughts.

Pros- Eco friendly box, products I would not purchase on my own, full size chapstick, Athena bar

Cons- website interaction, no rewards or review programs

The price is good, it borderlines on whether it is worth it, but the eco-friendly part is a big seller for me. I am always trying to find natural products that I love. The website is very bare and there are no rewards programs or review boards etc. that I get from other subscription services, but it is a one woman show which I support. Overall I will continue with this subscription service.
